Who we are

Virginia ACORN is a collaborative partnership between primary care practices and a multidisciplinary team of researchers devoted to evaluating and improving the quality of primary health care. Research results are intended to inform and influence decisions along the continuum of service to patients, from research to practice and policy.

What we do

We work with patients, clinicians, practices, health systems, and communities throughout Virginia and the nation to understand the issues that impact health and wellbeing. Based on this understanding and practice interests, we design, conduct, and disseminate research studies that matter to primary care.

Why we are a PBRN

Primary care matters. Most Americans receive most of their healthcare from primary care. People who have a primary care clinician are healthier and happier.  Likewise, communities with enough primary care clinicians are healthier places to live. Yet primary care is under-resourced and under-funded. Practices know what their patients need, but often struggle with insufficient time, staff, and community support to fully help their patients be healthier.

How we partner with practices

Throughout the research lifecycle, we partner with our member practices, patients, and stakeholders as collaborators. We want to know what problems people are facing, the solutions they think will solve those problems, and what it takes to implement those solutions. Knowing this information is how we can do research that matters to primary care.
